Crested Butte is at 9,000 feet elevation. We recommend that you take your time getting here from lower elevation, or arrive a few days early to acclimate. However you get here, drink lot’s of water, eat carbs (hooray) and get good sleep.

Fly Nearby

United and American Airlines both fly into nearby airports:

  • Gunnison/Crested Butte Airport (40 minute drive)

  • Montrose Airport ( 1 hour 40 minute drive)

Both airports have shuttles that can be booked to Crested Butte as well as car rental facilities.

Alpine Express is an easy way to get from Gunnison to Crested Butte. You can either book ahead of time, or book when you land.

You can also fly into Aspen or Vail and do a 3 hour drive that goes through the Kebler Pass, which is one of our favorite things to do!

Drive from Denver or Colorado Springs

Denver and Colorado Springs airports are a 4-5 hour (beautiful) drive to Crested Butte. While the drive definitely is doable in one stint, there are some great places to stay along the way.

There is a small grocery store in Crested Butte, but we would recommend stopping at Gunnison on the way in, where there is a large City Market grocery store as well as a Walmart.

There are plenty of wine and liquor stores in Crested Butte, but I’m sure we’ll keep you plenty hydrated.
